Petit Manseng

Petit Manseng is a white grape from France’s southwestern Pyrenean foothills. In the vineyard, its small berries can build sugar late into the season while retaining pronounced acidity. That balance helps explain its place in both dry white wines and concentrated sweet styles in Jurançon and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh. Genetic research also links it by parent–offspring relationships to Savagnin Blanc and Gros Manseng, although the main study passage does not establish the direction of either relationship.

Gros Manseng

Gros Manseng is a white grape from the Pyrenean vineyards of southwestern France. Its small berries can accumulate sugar while retaining high acidity, so regional growers use it for both dry and sweet wines. That makes harvest timing a practical style decision: fruit retained on the vine can support moelleux wines, while dry examples show the grape in a different balance. Its relationship to Petit Manseng is genetic, but the cited genome study reports a parent–offspring link without stating which is the parent.
