Big news from SommWine, we are evolving into SommWine, SomeBeer & More!

This August, we’ll be launching the WSET Level 1 Award in Beer, bringing the world’s leading beer qualification to students who want to deepen their understanding of beer styles, production, tasting, and food pairing.

Wine education will always remain at the heart of what we do. But we’re growing and expanding our offerings to include beer education, tastings, and hospitality training. Keep an eye out for our new branding as it begins to appear across our website and social media channels.

Certified-WSET Beer Courses

One of the things I’ve enjoyed most while preparing to teach beer is discovering just how much it has in common with wine. Both have deep connections to history, geography, culture, and craftsmanship. Like wine, every beer style has a story—and some of those stories stretch back thousands of years!

My beer education took me to Las Vegas for the WSET Beer Educator Training Program. There, I had the opportunity to learn alongside and from some of the most respected figures in the global beer industry. Among them were renowned brewers, Master Brewers from Belgium, representatives of the historic Trappist breweries, Master Cicerones, and BJCP Masters. The depth of knowledge, represented in that room was remarkable; it opened my eyes to just how rich and diverse the world of beer is. And they were so much fun!

A quick note for those familiar with the wine qualification pathway: unlike wine, WSET currently offers Beer qualifications at Levels 1 and 2 only. There is presently no WSET Level 3 or 4. As a result, Level 2 is currently the highest WSET Beer qualification available.

We've Releasing 2 New Ultimate Guides in Beer Too!

At the same time as our WSET Level 1 in Beer launch, we’ll also be releasing two new study resources: The Ultimate Guide to WSET Level 1 in Beer and The Ultimate Guide to WSET Level 2 in Beer. Like our wine guides, these will include practice quizzes, study tools, exam tips, and learning resources designed to help students succeed. In addition, even if you study with another WSET-approved school, our guides, will be available!

I’m excited about this new chapter. Whether you’re curious about classic European brewing traditions, modern craft beer, food pairing, or tasting technique, there’s a fascinating story waiting to be discovered.
